HONOLULU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
H onolulu International Airport is the principal aviation gateway of the City & County of Honolulu and the State of Hawaii and is identified as one of the busiest airports in the United State s, with traffic now exceeding 21 million passengers a year and rising.
There are a number of ways to get to and from Honolulu International Airport. The airport is located 10 miles from Waikiki, and six miles from downtown Honolulu. HNL is accessible by car, taxi, bus, and shuttle Tourists wanting to get from the Honolulu International Airport to their hotel in Waikiki can use public transportation (The Bus), taxi cab, airport shuttle or rental car.
The H-1 Interstate Freeway has both eastbound and westbound exits that bring you directly to the airport.

Bus Route No. 19
Eastbound route goes from the airport, then to Kalihi Kai (via Nimitz Highway), downtown Honolulu, the Honolulu Civic Center, Ala Moana Shopping Center and ends in Waikiki. Westbound route goes from the airport and ends at Hickam Air Force Base.
Bus Route No. 20
Eastbound route goes from the airport, then to Kalihi (via Nimitz Highway), downtown Honolulu, the Honolulu Civic Center, Ala Moana Shopping Center and ends in Waikiki. Westbound route goes from the airport to the Arizona Memorial, Aloha Stadium, Aiea and ends at Pearlridge Shopping Center.
Bus Route No. 31
East bound route begins at Tripler Medical Center and goes to the Kalihi Transit Center. The Westbound route begins at the Airport and goes to the Kalihi Transit Center.
City Buses arrive and depart from the airport approximately every 30 minutes depending on route number.
Bus Stops are located on the second level roadway along the center median. Look for the signs.
Taxi Service is available on the center median fronting the terminal baggage claim areas. See the taxi dispatchers (yellow shirts with black lettering, and the wording “TAXI DISPATCHER” for service.
The fare from the airport to Waikiki during non-rush hour periods is approximately $40.00-$45.00, plus a baggage charge of 50 cents per bag. Fare is by meter only.
At the airport there are 6 car rental companies. Car rental shuttles stop in designated areas along the center median on the ground level outside of baggage claim areas.
